Karen Hussey is Director of the Centre for Policy Innovation located in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at The University of Queensland, a position she took up in July 2017 after a period as Deputy Director of UQ's Global Change Institute. Trained as a political scientist and economist, Karen undertakes research in the field of public policy and governance, with a particular interest in public policy relating to sustainable development.
Her recent research has focused on water and energy security, the role of the state in climate change mitigation and adaptation, the links between international trade and environmental regulation, and the peculiarities of public policy in federal and supranational systems.
Prior to taking up her position at UQ, she was Associate Professor in the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the ANU, where she now holds an Adjunct Professorship. From 2007-2010 Karen was based in Brussels as the ANU Vice Chancellorís Representative in Europe, where she was responsible for developing the ANUís research relationships and profile with European research teams and institutions.
